When HDK began its operations, the combination of dungeon-synth and fantasy role-playing games proved to be a winning choice. The label has always considered dungeon-synth as the ideal soundtrack for role-playing sessions, adventure video games, and fantasy board games. However, it is important to note that HDK did not invent this concept.

First of Kobold‘s productions, Dan J. Schulte, a musician from Palm Spring, California, had already self-produced a series of ambient albums inspired by classic Dungeons & Dragons adventure modules. His “Dungeon Trilogy” features tracks titled after Gary Gygax ‘s iconic TSR modules of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

A one-of-a-kind collection

HDK decided to create a cassette collection of Dan J. Schulte ‘s D&D-inspired productions, since these albums had never been released in physical format. “Shadow of the Underworld” Vol. 2 offers nine underground exploration sessions, perfect for old-school dungeon-crawling fans.

Artwork to match the music

To enhance this production, HDK engaged PLASTIBOO, one of the most highly regarded dungeon-devotee artists of recent years. Known for his VERMIS volumes, PLASTIBOO created an illustration that captures the essence of this unique musical collection.
