“Mithology” – as its author states – manifests its devotion to the history of fantasy film soundtracks: from 1950s kolossals with music by Miklos Rozsa, to Italian Sword & Sandal films of the 1960s, from soundtracks by Basil Poledouris, Vangelis and Trevor Jones to children’s TV series such as “Masters of the Universe” or “Xeena: Warrior Princess.”

Few albums like this have made us jump out of our chairs and giggle, “OH YES!” Graham Simpson, the author of the beautiful “Electrical Storm at the Micro-Station” released by HDK in 2024, returns with an epic, powerful and terribly evocative concept.

“Mithology” contains a mini-gamebook, the first issue of the “28-page deadly quest” series titled “The Fortress”: a short but risky quest in which the reader is the protagonist, inspired by the interactive literature of the 1980s (Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone’s “Fighting Fantasy” series, Dever & Chalck’s beloved “Lone Wolf,” D&D’s “Endless Quest” series …) and to the cerebral text adventures of early home computers such as the ZX Spectrum and Apple II (Melbourne House’s “Hobbit” or the adventures of the legendary Infocom).
