“You are an adventurer traveling across the land with your sword and shield, in search of challenges…”

“Mines of Malagus” is a classic dungeon-crawl adventure set in a dark underground world. Will you be able to complete old Nytrak’s mission? Three fragments of a marble tombstone lie scattered throughout the mines. If you find them and bring them back to the surface, peace will reign once again in this remote village. But be careful: deadly and unknown dangers lurk in the dark depths of the mines!

In the 1980s, there was a boom in so-called “game books”—interactive books, usually in the fantasy genre, in which the reader was asked to make choices and solve puzzles to reach the last page.

PROTEUS, a magazine published in the United Kingdom from 1984 to 1988, featured a complete interactive adventure to play in every issue: these were simple dungeon crawls, treasure hunts filled with oddities, strange puzzles, and absurd monsters.

The PROTEUS adventures weren’t masterpieces, but they were fun and damn hard: there were often dozens of items to find in order to complete the mission and defeat the final monster, and more often than not, the one that mattered was missing; Furthermore, it was essential to draw maps of the dungeons so as not to get lost in the paragraphs, but these maps often… didn’t add up.

In short: lots of fun for us kids from the analog era!
